RHU graphic design students learn how to protect their intellectual property

RHU Graphic Design students and members of RHU Design Society learned a lot at the Designer Protection Acts panel talk they attended on October 15. The panel, conducted by the Lebanese Graphic Design Syndicate in Furn El Chebbak, discussed the laws and rights found in the Lebanese Law that protect designers’ work. It broadened RHU students’ knowledge about their rights while working in the design field and are faced with client issues.

The panel consisted of the following speakers: Mr. Wassim El Amil, representative of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Mr. Sarmand Bou Chamoun, the Syndicate Lawyer, and Mr. Patric Nacouzi, the President of the Syndicate.

Many issues were deliberated such as copyright, work entitlement, registration of design work, legal processes for registering a company, and legal process of writing a contract between a designer and a client. They also highlighted the copyright laws found in the Lebanese law. Those are all issues a graphic designer should be aware of and will face later on in the workplace.
