We at RHU are proud of Class 2013 mechanical engineering alumnus Afif Batal who has successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Laser Surface Texturing of Biomaterials: From Conceptualization to Implementation” on August 6, 2020 at the University of Birmingham (UoB), UK. The presentation was done virtually amid the COVID 19 closures.
"I owe this special achievement to my loving family and encouraging supervisor Professor Dimov" he said.
Dr. Batal received his Bachelor of Science degree from RHU in 2013 and went on to pursue a Master’s of Science in advanced mechanical engineering at the University of Birmingham which he obtained with Distinction in 2014. Following his postgraduate studies, Dr. Batal conducted research with the advanced manufacturing group at UoB before starting his Ph.D. project in 2016.
Dr. Batal recently joined the technology and engineering consultancy firm Alten as a laser processing expert, his first project is with innovative fuel cell manufacturer Ceres Power. Moreover, during his time at Birmingham, Dr. Batal has contributed to more than 15 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
