Dr. El-Abed is the Dean of the College of Business Administration at Rafik Hariri University. He previously served as Chair of the Computer and Information Systems Department in the College of Arts & Sciences. He obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Caen Lower Normandy, France. Ever since 2008, he’s been teaching different courses in Computer Science at the School of Engineering of Caen-France (2008 - 2012) and Rafik Hariri University-Lebanon (2012 till present). The taught courses covered a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to: Introduction to algorithms, C programming language, Data structure and advanced algorithms, Operating Systems and Networks, Object Oriented Programming in C++ and JAVA, Database (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Models), Web Design, Software Engineering, Biometric Authentication Security, Mobile Application Development, Theory of Computation, and Machine Learning & Data mining (classification algorithms and genetic algorithms).
Dr. El-Abed’s main research interests are in Machine Learning, Image Processing, and Computer Security. He has published more than 35 papers in international conferences, such as the IEEE International Conference on Biometrics: Theory, Applications, and Systems (BTAS) and the IEEE International Conference on Biometrics (ICB), as well as in international journals, including the Elsevier International Journal of Future Generation Computer Systems. His research has received over 1,400 citations, with a Google Scholar h-index of 18.
He is a member of the Academic Committee of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), the Academic Committee of the Syndicate of Computer Sciences in Lebanon, and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
He also serves as a reviewer for several journals, including the International Journal of Signal, Image and Video Processing (Springer) and the International Journal of Computer Engineering & Information Technology. In addition, he has reviewed articles for various international conferences, such as the International Conference on Image and Signal Processing (ICIP) and the International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS).
