Science Olympics

RHU Science Olympics is a computer based competition in selected fields of Science and Engineering. The competition topic categories this year are in:

  • Mechanical Engineering with focus on Dynamics, Thermo-dynamics and Mechanics of Materials.
  • CCE/Electrical Engineering with focus on Electric Circuits, Logic Circuits and Electronics.
  • Civil Engineering with focus on Statics, Structural Analysis I, Concrete & Construction Materials.
  • Computer Science with focus on Algorithms & Data Structures, Databases, Operating Systems and Computer Networks.
  • A pool of questions will be prepared by the members of the scientific committee of each category. The questions will be finalized and uploaded on the system the day of the competition.

    The competition consists of a 3-hour session that includes questions of all levels ranging from average to gifted. All questions are equally rated and are ordered in the same fashion for all students. The topics will cover course materials, general knowledge and brainteaser quizzes. The first three students with the highest scores will be the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners for each category.

    Fans and supporters will be watching live scores of their participants on a big screen where food and refreshment will be served.

    Olympics Rules

    1- Smoking is prohibited in the contest hall.

    2- All contestants must wear their badge & the official contest T-shirt during the contest.

    3- Contestants should attend a presentation on the rules of the competition between 10:00 & 10:30 AM.

    4- The contest lasts for three hours (from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM).

    5- Contestants may only bring printed material to the contest hall. No electronic devices or media are allowed inside the hall. Computers, CD's, disks, music players, flash memory, etc. are all prohibited.

    6- Cellular phones (mobiles) are strictly prohibited inside the contest hall.

    7- Rebooting the computers under any special circumstances during the contest is not allowed.

    8- Each contestant should solve as many problems as possible.

    9- There is a penalty for any wrong submission. Three incorrect answers cancel one correct answer. All questions are equally rated. Penalty is applied only if a wrong answer is submitted. To avoid submitting wrong answers, the contestant can press the skip button.

    10- The participant is ranked according to the most problems solved. Participants who solve the same number of problems are ranked by least total submission time.

    11- Any contestant attempting to communicate with others, to tamper with the machines, or disrupt the contest environment in any way will be disqualified.

    12- Contestants requiring any kind of help should remain seated while being assisted by an invigilator.
