The National Erasmus+ Office of Lebanon NEO in collaboration with Rafik Hariri University, organized an information session about the opportunities that the Erasmus+ program offers to higher education institutions. RHU hosted this event on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. in the MEA Conference Hall at its campus in Mechref.

These opportunities cover the 4 international actions: Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), International Credit Mobility (ICM), Erasmus Mundus (EM) and Jean Monnet (JM). Erasmus+ is the EU program that supports education, training, youth and sport and whose current generation extends between 2021-2027.

The event attracted 75 attendees. RHU President, Dr. Makram Suidan, welcomed them on campus and delivered a short presentation about RHU, the university campus and student housing, colleges, majors, pioneering programs of study, accreditations, awards won by students, and international collaborations.

A training on how to submit proposals under the Erasmus+ programme was conducted on the e-platform dedicated for this purpose by the European Commission. A panel about CBHE projects presented the experiences, tips, and lessons. It discussed how to come up with project ideas, establish the consortium and manage partnerships.

Erasmus+ programme, since its inception in 2015, has funded 27 capacity building projects in Lebanon that worked on modernizing the Higher Education Institutions, improving the governance of HEIs, optimizing the relation of the HEI with the labor market and societal needs, and supporting national reforms in HE system. The programme has also funded more than 4000 mobility projects of students and professors between 2015 and 2021. The programme continues to offer scholarships for master’s degrees of excellence.

Erasmus+ in its new phase holds an array of opportunities to new stakeholders. These are youth organizations and vocational education and training institutions. With the announcement of 2022 as the European year of youth by the European Commission, the programme offers other opportunities such as the Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange and Salto Resource Centers that target particularly the youth.
