RHU CBA hosts a seminar on data elitism in the Arab region

The College of Business Administration (CBA) hosted a seminar entitled “Breaking Data Elitism in the Arab Region: The Role of the Arab Development Portal” on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the main theatre. The purpose of the seminar was to spread an understanding about database access warehouse and become knowledgeable about the Arab Development Portal which offers timely and high-quality data on key development topics and indicators in the Arab region. Ms. Yasmine Koujou, Research Officer and National Statistical Offices' Coordinator, Arab Development Portal, Regional Bureau for Arab States, UNDP, delivered the seminar to an audience of RHU students and faculty who are interested in database analysis and economic research. Ms. Koujou indicated that data and knowledge resources on development issues in the Arab region are often outdated, unreliable, and fragmented across multiple international, regional and local sources. Improved access to data could tremendously contribute to the Arab region’s social, economic, and environmental development and advance people’s lives at all levels. The Arab Development Portal provides easy and free access to reliable, accurate, and credible data from national and international sources. The Arab community can become more actively and meaningfully engaged in rethinking development policies, conducting evidence-based research, taking fact-based positions, or leading on entrepreneurial initiatives, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of their countries and regions. “Data will talk to you if you are willing to listen.”
