RHU hosted the “First Regional Scientific Conference on Higher Education Systems in the Arab World: Between Diagnosis and Development” on April 16, 2019. The Conference served to identity the main problems facing the higher education systems in the Arab world and propose practical solutions in light of the realities and possibilities available.
The Conference was a result of a fruitful cooperation between four prestigious institutions: Rafik Hariri University (Lebanon), Al Quds Open University (Palestine), International Union of Historians (Brussels) and Al Warraq Publishing and Distribution Foundation (the main supporter of the conference).

On behalf of the RHU President, Dr. Makram Suidan, RHU Vice President for Development, Mr. Hisham Kobrosli, welcomed the audience and wished them success in working to meet the challenges posed by the developments, challenges and political, social and economic changes that the Arab societies are facing.
The President of the Conference, Dr. Omar Ahmad Hamshari, then addressed the audience on the occasion. He pointed out: “there are clear indications that the place of our educational systems on the local and international map is weak and unclear; Our educational systems carry heavy burdens that have slowed down their advancement and roles in producing an effective impact on Arab societies that are declining significantly as a result.”
The conference was attended by a number of experts from all Arab countries. The Conference ended with a set of recommendations to activate the communication and cooperation between the presenters to address these problems
