It has been a busy fall semester for the RHU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Club, fulfilling their mission of introducing all those who are interested to the vast field of Artificial Intelligence. Their activities included an interactive seminar introducing artificial intelligence and two workshops on Python language and linear regression.

The first interactive seminar, “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence,” took place on October 26, 2020. RHU AI Club’s committee members Ms. Ghinwa Masri and Ms. Dalia Raydan introduced 45 club members to the concepts, model-building steps, applications and projects of AI. This was the first in a series of seminars and workshops planned to enable AI Club members to learn how to use AI to solve real world problems.
On November 2, committee member Ms. Jana Kabrit presented the workshop “Intro to Python for AI” and explained the different practical concepts, algorithms, libraries, and codes written in Python for building any typical AI model. In this workshop, AI Club members had the chance to code and implement the algorithms immediately.
After the students got equipped with all the basics for kicking off their AI journey, RHU AI Club president Ms. Yasmine Abu Adla presented a theoretical and practical workshop that introduced Linear Regression concepts to the members. In this 2-hour workshop held November 16, students worked on cleaning a dataset and building their first linear regression model to predict the average student grade from the number of hours the student studied.

These three workshops were only the start in the RHU AI Club journey! A discussion with the founder of Beirut AI, and the co-founder and CEO of Zaka, Mr. Christophe Zoghbi is the AI Club’s next event. Moreover, the Spring Semester is right around the corner and will be loaded with an interesting set of workshops that the AI Club has prepared to host!
