Devastated by the wild fires that broke in the area, large forest areas in Mechref have been burnt. The Lebanese Reforestation Initiative (LRI) endorsed by USAID along with the assistance of the Mechref Municipality supported RHU reforestation efforts that began on Tuesday January 21, 2020 where the grounds were prepared for planting 1000 trees.
On Wednesday, volunteers from RHU faculty, staff and students participated in planting the side landscapes leading to the campus starting from the Mechref main gate. After that, the community gathered for a small reception.
RHU had escaped the raging fires that ravaged the beautiful forests in Lebanon during October 2019 and were especially devastating in Mechref village. Fires had been prevented from spreading uncontrollably to the RHU main grounds and buildings. Nevertheless, the fires reduced a large green area that surrounds the RHU campus to ashes.
