RHU proudly announces its exceptional performance at the IEEE Lebanese National Student Competition (LNSC’25), hosted this year by Beirut Arab University. The competition, technically sponsored by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Lebanon Chapter, brought together top graduating students from leading universities across Lebanon to showcase innovative final-year projects in engineering and applied sciences. RHU engineering students distinguished themselves by securing two first-place awards in the highly competitive Biomedical Engineering category.

In the Biomedical Engineering Hardware Track, the RHU project titled “AI Voice-Dependent & EMG-Controlled Bionic Arm” earned first place. The winning team comprised Ahmad Sharara, Israa Ramadan, Rand El Sabeh Ayoun, Salam Daou, and Tala Antar, under the expert supervision of Dr. Mohamad Diab.

Meanwhile, in the Biomedical Engineering Software Track, the RHU project “Automated Liver Segmentation and Tumor Detection Using U-Net” also took first-place honours. This project was developed by Ranim El Hamwi, Nadine Al Masri, Razan Al Moghrabi, Zeinab Abbas, Rama Younes, and Mostafa Daher, guided by Dr. Mohamad Diab and Dr. Racha Soubra.

Beyond mentoring these award-winning teams, Dr. Mohamad Diab, RHU Professor and Chairperson of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, received two special recognitions: one for his role as a key organizer of LNSC’25 and another as Chair of the IEEE EMBS Lebanon Chapter.

These remarkable achievements underscore RHU’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence, cutting-edge innovation, and impactful research in biomedical engineering and artificial intelligence.
