RHU student represents Lebanon with AI-powered myoelectric arm innovation in Oman

From RHU to Oman, student innovation is crossing borders. Rafik Hariri University (RHU) proudly supports Biomedical Engineering student Samir Fakhro as he travels to Salalah, Oman, to represent RHU and Lebanon at the Fourth Edition of the Arab Independence Initiative for Persons with Disabilities, organized by ESCWA and taking place on September 16–17, 2026.

Selected at the national level to represent Lebanon, Samir is a member of the RHU team behind the AI-Controlled Myoelectric Arm, an innovative project that brings together Biomedical Engineering and Computer & Communications Engineering students to develop technology designed to create meaningful solutions for people with disabilities.

RHU Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Prof. Mohamad O. Diab, and Associate Professor Dr. Bassam Moslem supervised the project, combining engineering expertise and artificial intelligence to explore new possibilities in assistive technology.

Samir’s participation in the initiative highlights the talent and creativity of RHU students and reflects the University’s commitment to fostering innovation that addresses real-world challenges and makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

RHU is proud to see its students take their ideas beyond the classroom and onto the international stage, representing both the University and Lebanon.

We wish Samir and the entire team every success in Oman!
