The unresolved fate of thousands of people who went missing during the Lebanese civil war still causes intense anguish to their families. Committees of the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared (CFKD) and ACT for the Disappeared (ACT), with the support of UNDP, organized several sessions at RHU and other universities to raise awareness about this issue.

The session addressed several topics. It discussed Law 105, the mandate of the National Commission, and the challenges it faces. Sad stories from families of the missing that emphasized the human dimension of the right to know projected hugely among the attendees.

Addressing the issue of the disappeared is crucial to ending the injustice for the affected families. It is also a necessary first step towards establishing the basis for sustainable peace in Lebanon.
