February 5, 2019 marked the celebration of World Cancer Day at RHU. The Student Affairs Office coordinated an event at 11:00 a.m. in the RHU theatre to raise awareness and encourage early detection of the disease. On this occasion, RHU announced the launching of the RHU Donner Sang Compter (DSC) Club to be working hand-in-hand with the RHU First Aid Club in order to organize frequent blood donation campaigns at RHU. The event also included a very heartwarming congratulations to RHU staff Ms. Diana Zarif for having finished her chemotherapy.
Mr. Abdo Saad, Communication Manager at DSC, spoke about the importance of blood donation in order to meet the increasing demand for around 100,000 units of blood annually in Lebanon. He thanked RHU for being the first university in Lebanon to contribute to the DSC mission and host DSC blood drive events six years ago.
Donner Sang Compter is an NGO whose mission is to provide blood for patients in need through a centralized database of potential donors, and through conducted in partnership with local blood banks. Moreover, Mr. Rafik Assi, President of RHU First Aid Club delivered a word highlighting the role of the club.
