On August 31, 2026, RHU hosted its New Student Orientation Program, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for its new students. The event provided an opportunity for students and their parents to connect with faculty and staff and learn more about the academic and non-academic programs, services, and opportunities available at RHU. It also helped new students become familiar with university life and the RHU campus in Mechref.
At the entrance to the Main Theatre, RHU President Dr. Said Ladki, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mahmoud Halablab, and Deans Mohamad Taha and Houssam Salami personally welcomed the students and their parents.
The program began with the Lebanese National Anthem and the RHU Anthem, followed by an address from RHU President Dr. Said Ladki started by introducing RHU Vice Presidents, attending was Provost Mahmoud Halablab, and the College Deans: Dr. Houssam Salami (CAS), Dr. Anis El Khatib (CBA), and Dr. Toufic Hijazi (CE). He also encouraged students to stand up and introduce themselves to those sitting next to them, in front of them, and behind them. “You are not strangers anymore,” he affirmed. “You already made four friends starting now.”
Dr. Ladki’s address focused on the skills and mindset students should develop during their years at RHU. He explained that while their courses will equip them with the technical skills needed for their professional lives, they should also develop three essential conceptual skills: the ability to think, the ability to make decisions, and the ability to add value in everything they do. He challenged students to make their years at RHU purposeful and to take responsibility for their academic and personal growth.
He urged students to take their studies seriously, attend classes regularly, study daily, submit assignments on time, and build strong relationships with their faculty and advisors. He also reminded them that the Deans, Vice Presidents, Provost, and President are available to support them through RHU’s open-door policy.
Encouraging students to embrace the broader university experience, Dr. Ladki urged them to build new friendships, meet people from different backgrounds, and make the library their “social stage.” He also shared the story of television host and comedian Steve Harvey to emphasize the importance of believing in oneself and not allowing others to limit one’s aspirations.
Concluding his address, Dr. Ladki encouraged students to speak up, build meaningful relationships, embrace opportunities, and challenge themselves to think beyond what is expected. “You are not here to fit in. You are here to expand what’s possible,” he told them, reminding them that the RHU community is there to support and challenge them throughout their journey. He concluded: “This campus is not your destination. It’s your runway.”
After the President’s speech, Ms. Sahar Hallak, Associate Director of Student Affairs, introduced the SA team and highlighted the services and opportunities available to students, including shuttle services, student housing, student representation, health and wellness services, work-study and financial aid programs, clubs and societies, athletics, and campus events. She also invited students to the RHU Welcome Party, which will take place on September 24.
Ms. Lina Basho, Assistant Director of the IT Help Desk, provided an overview of the technical support available to students, including student webmail, the Student Information System, Wi-Fi, Moodle, and student IDs. She reminded students to check their webmail daily as it is the primary means of communication with RHU.
RHU Finance Manager Ms. Marwa Khanji provided information about financial services and payment deadlines, emphasizing the importance of making payments on time to avoid late fees and penalties, including those related to bus services.
RHU Human Resources Assistant Ms. Nathalie Hourani explained the student insurance coverage provided by the University and reminded students to seek immediate medical assistance at the student infirmary in case of an accident on campus.
Ms. Nour Matar, from the RHU Registrar, outlined the registration process and emphasized the importance of reading the Student Catalog, respecting deadlines, managing time effectively, and maintaining good academic standing.
Students were then divided into three groups based on their college enrollment and toured the campus, visiting the dorms, engineering laboratories, computer labs, gymnasium, and other main facilities. The tours gave students an opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings and begin developing a sense of belonging at RHU.
