At RHU, we take immense pride in the journeys our alumni embark on, and few stories capture the spirit of innovation and impact like that of Dr. Amani Alabed, a 2015 graduate of RHU’s College of Business Administration.
Today, Dr. Alabed serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, where she’s helping shape the future of artificial intelligence in education and beyond.
A Journey Rooted in Curiosity and Purpose
After completing her undergraduate studies in marketing at RHU, Dr. Alabed pursued an MSc in International Marketing in 2018, followed by a PhD in Marketing at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, which she completed in 2023. Her doctoral research explored the intersection of artificial intelligence, anthropomorphism, and consumer behavior, examining how human-like traits in AI systems affect user experience and trust.
“It’s always a pleasure remembering how the university shaped who I am today,” Dr. Alabed reflects. “RHU gave me the academic foundation and ethical grounding to pursue research that truly matters.”
Research That Moves Beyond the Classroom
Dr. Alabed’s work now centers on the role of AI in shaping human experience and learning environments. Her research on conversational AI and user interaction has been published in leading journals such as the European Journal of Marketing, and her insights have informed AI-related public policy, including research cited by the Norwegian Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education (NIFU).
In addition to her academic work, Dr. Alabed is a co-lead of the AI Literacy Framework for Higher Education (QAA UK), where she collaborates with institutions across the UK to promote responsible, inclusive, and ethical AI use in teaching and learning.

Recognition and Global Engagement
In 2025, Dr. Alabed was nominated by her university for the UNESCO–Al Fozan International Prize for Women in Science and Technology, a prestigious acknowledgement of her work in empowering women in STEM. She also received multiple honors, including the Rising Academic Member Award, for her leadership in research and community engagement.
Dr. Alabed is an active contributor to public discourse around AI. She has delivered hands-on AI literacy workshops across Qatar and the wider region, helping educators, students, and entrepreneurs understand and harness AI tools effectively. She was also a featured speaker at the Al Jazeera Artificial Intelligence in Media Conference, where she shared insights on the evolving role of AI in the Gulf region.
