As part of the series of dialogues depicting the October 2019 Revolution in Lebanon, RHU hosted Mr. Wissam Yafi, technologist, international development practitioner, and author, to discuss his latest research “What is a “Bill of Rights” and can it help Lebanon rise again?” on Thursday, December 12, 2019 in RHU MEA Conference Hall.

In this talk, he presented a comparative discussion that Lebanon needs a “Bill of Rights”, typically referred to as a citizen bill of rights, that consolidates and elucidates the demands of the frustrated Lebanese citizens who have hit the streets in a national uprising against the gross incompetence of their government officials since October 17, 2019.
The “Bill of Rights”, he explained, will serve as an explicit legal document that serves as a strategy or action plan with a clear set of pertinent, new, reasserted or clarified laws, that safeguards the interest of the Lebanese citizens and can be held in the court of law in case of any abuse.

At the end of his talk, Mr. Yafi tackled the inquiries of an interested audience of faculty, staff and students on the topic itself and its potential effects on Lebanon in light of the ongoing uprising of citizens.
