On the solemn 20th anniversary of the tragic assassination of RHU Founder, His Excellency Prime Minister Martyr Rafik Hariri, the RHU community united in a heartfelt tribute to celebrate not just a leader, but a transformative force whose vision and values continue to inspire us all. Under the theme "عشرين وبالوعد مكملين", we came together to honor a legacy that transcends time, one that remains a shining beacon of hope and progress for Lebanon and the world.
The ceremony, marked by deep reverence, featured the distinguished journalist Ms. Warda Zamel as keynote speaker, whose words resonated with a profound reflection on the life of a visionary who forever changed Lebanon's destiny.
The event commenced with the Lebanese national anthem, followed by a moment of silence, allowing all in attendance to pay tribute to the Martyr. RHU President, Dr. Said Ladki, delivered an emotional and inspiring speech, paying tribute to Martyr Hariri’s relentless commitment to the country’s reconstruction, its peace, and, above all, to the future of Lebanon’s youth.
"On behalf of our Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Nazek Rafik Hariri, I stand before you to commemorate the assassination of our founder, Prime Minister Rafik Hariri," Dr. Ladki stated. "Mrs. Hariri, as a staunch supporter of education, remains committed to our founder’s educational mission. She is determined to educate and empower the young people of this country to become free thinkers and transformational agents capable of serving their country and advancing their communities."
He went on to highlight two monumental achievements: the Taif Agreement, which brought an end to Lebanon’s devastating Civil War, and the Martyr's monumental efforts to rebuild a shattered nation. "Martyr Rafik Hariri’s leadership knew no bounds," Dr. Ladki continued. "He saw beyond divisions, focusing on rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, governance, healthcare, and economic reform, placing education at the heart of his vision. His scholarship program touched the lives of countless individuals, myself included."
Ms. Zamel’s tribute was equally moving. With admiration and a deep sense of loss, she recalled how Martyr Hariri’s unwavering dedication to Lebanon was the cornerstone of his legacy. "We turned to him in every crisis," she said, her voice filled with both sorrow and pride. "He was the constant we trusted, the one who believed in Lebanon’s potential when others couldn’t. His presence was a symbol of hope, not just for Lebanon, but for the world.” She fondly recalled how people would say, “Mr. Lebanon has arrived,” wherever he went, underscoring his unparalleled influence and the international recognition of his leadership.
Her words not only celebrated the extraordinary life of Martyr Hariri, but also reignited a sense of pride and responsibility in all who listened. The ceremony reminded us that the world may never again see such a remarkable leader—one who bridged divides and united us with a shared purpose. Her reflections ignited a call to action, urging us to continue the Martyr’s pursuit of progress, unity, and hope.
The ceremony concluded with a poignant video tribute, created by RHU alumnus Mouaz Kabour, offering a heartfelt visual journey through Martyr Hariri’s legacy. The video captured his love for Beirut, his tireless advocacy for education, and the profound impact he had not only on Lebanon but on the world stage. His legacy, like the vibrant city he cherished, continues to inspire and lead future generations toward a brighter, united future.
