RHU commemorated the 21st anniversary of the assassination of its RHU Founder, HE Late Prime Minister Martyr Rafik Hariri, with a solemn memorial ceremony honoring a visionary leader whose vision, resilience, and generosity continue to shape Lebanon and inspire generations.
Held on campus and organized by the Student Affairs Office, the event brought together students, faculty, staff, and members of the RHU community for a collective reflection on the legacy of a leader who prioritized education, nation-building, and human dignity in his mission.
The ceremony began with remarks from Associate Director of Student Affairs Mrs. Sahar Hallak, followed by a moment of silence, the Lebanese National Anthem, and RHU Alma Mater. Student participation included an address by SRC representative Mr. Omar Abdel Wahed, who emphasized the vital role of youth in promoting the founder’s vision, reflecting on the profound national and institutional impact of Martyr Hariri’s leadership.
The memorial also included deep personal reflections from Mrs. Rafal Tabbaa Khayat, the Director of Communication and Alumni Relations, and Dr. Mohammad Taha, the Dean of Engineering. Both spoke from personal experience as beneficiaries of the Hariri Foundation Loan Program. In their remarks, they emphasized that access to education through this initiative was not just financial aid but a transformative opportunity that changed their academic journeys and careers. Their stories highlighted Martyr Rafik Hariri’s belief in education as a driver of social mobility and national progress and showcased his profound generosity in empowering many young people to pursue their dreams with dignity and hope.
In his address, RHU President Dr. Said Ladki reflected on Martyr Hariri’s steadfast leadership and unwavering vision for Lebanon’s recovery after the civil war, despite persistent criticism and adversity. He highlighted two defining qualities of Prime Minister Hariri’s character: an exceptional work ethic and a deep commitment to philanthropy. He recalled a leader whose ambitious projects in infrastructure, healthcare, and education, once questioned for their scale, ultimately became cornerstones of Lebanon’s long-term development.
The ceremony included the projection of a deeply moving commemorative video reflecting on the life and legacy of Martyr Rafik Hariri, including the tragic moment of his assassination. The powerful visual tribute evoked profound emotion among attendees and served as a solemn reminder of the sacrifice that forever marked the nation’s history.
The ceremony concluded with a collective reaffirmation of pride in Martyr Hariri’s legacy and a shared commitment to uphold his values. After the on-campus memorial, the RHU community visited the resting place of Martyr Rafik Hariri in Downtown Beirut, where members laid a wreath of flowers in reverent tribute, reaffirming their respect and ongoing dedication to his legacy.
As RHU marks this anniversary, the university renews its commitment to uphold its founder’s ideals, believing in education as a transformative force, in service as a duty, and in hope as the foundation for Lebanon’s future.
